John McConnell (President & CEO - VICTORIA GOLD CORP.)

YMA Chair

John is a Professional Mining Engineer with extensive operating experience, something that is of huge value to Victoria Gold Corp. as they move thei projects forward. During John's career he has worked for Placer Development Limited, Cominco Ltd, Strathcona Mineral Services, Breakwater Resources, De Beers Canada Inc. and most recently was the President and CEO of Western Keltic Mines Inc. until its takeover by Sherwood Copper Corp. John is also a Director of Silver Eagle Mines Inc.

Clynton R. Nauman (President & CEO - ALEXCO RESOURCE CORP)

Mr. Nauman brings over 35 years of diversified experience in the mineral industry, ranging from exploration and business development to operations and business management in the precious metals, base metals and coal sectors. Mr. Nauman is also currently the CEO of Asset Liability Management Group and has held various executive and operations positions with Nerco Minerals and Coal companies (now Rio Tinto), Kennecott and Viceroy Resource Corp. Mr. Nauman holds a BSc (Hons) in geology from Otago University, New Zealand.

Eira Thomas (President & CEO - KAMINAK GOLD CORP.)

Ms. Thomas is a Canadian geologist whose career in the mining industry spans more than 20 years.  She served as a geologist with Aber Resources Ltd. (now Harry Winston Diamond Corporation) from 1992 to 1997, leading the field exploration team that discovered the Diavik Diamond Project pipes in the Northwest Territories in 1994 and 1995. She was promoted to Vice-President Exploration for Aber in 1997, a post she held for two years, and served on the Board of Directors from 1998 to 2006.  Diavik became Canada’s second diamond mine when it went into production in 2003.

Ms. Thomas is currently a director of a number of other public companies and organizations, including Suncor Energy Inc., Dundee Precious Metals Inc., Strongbow Exploration Inc., Lucara Diamond Corp., the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada (PDAC), the University of Toronto (U of T) Alumni Association, the Lassonde Advisory Board of the U of T, and she is a member of the U of T President’s Internal Advisory Council. Previously, Ms. Thomas held the positions of President of Navigator Exploration Corporation, CEO and Director of Stornoway Ventures Limited, and President, CEO and Director of Stornoway Diamond Corporation.

In 2004, Ms. Thomas was honoured as one of "Canada's Top 40 under 40" by the Caldwell Partners and the Report on Business Magazine.  Three years later (May 2007), she was awarded The William Harvey Gross Award, bestowed annually by the Mineral Deposits Division of the Geological Association of Canada, to a geoscientist less than 40 years of age who has made a significant contribution to the field of economic geology in a Canadian context. Later that year (November 2007), Ms. Thomas was selected as one of “Top 100 Canada’s Most Powerful Women”.  In March 2008, she was one of only four Canadians that year to be named to the “Young Global Leaders”, by the World Economic Forum.  In May 2009, Ms. Thomas was a recipient of the CIM’s (Canadian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy) Past Presidents’ Memorial Medal, awarded to a member under 45 who, by his/her accomplishments, has set an outstanding example to young members of the Institute and to young men/women contemplating a career in the minerals industry. In 2010, Ms. Thomas received the Minerva for BC Women Natural Resources Award.  Ms. Thomas graduated from the University of Toronto with a Bachelor of Science in Geology in 1990.

Greg Johnson (President & CEO - WELLGREEN PLATINUM)

Mr. Johnson has over 25 years of experience in the exploration and development of large scale projects in the mining industry and, through his global network of contacts, has been involved in raising over $650 million in project financing. Previously President and Chief Executive Officer at South American Silver Corp., he led the significant advancement and expansion of two development stage projects – a period in which the company's market capitalization increased from $20 million to a peak of $350 million. A co-founder and executive at NovaGold Resources Inc., Mr. Johnson was a key member of the executive team that led NovaGold Resources Inc. from a $50-million market capitalization to more than $2-billion and oversaw the expansion of the company's resource base to over 30 million ounces of gold.

Over his 12 years with NovaGold Resources Inc., Mr. Johnson played a prominent role in the acquisition and advancement of three world-class deposits, including the completion of three feasibility studies. Mr. Johnson began his career with Placer Dome Inc. (now Barrick Gold Corporation), where he held various senior roles in domestic and international exploration in projects from early discovery stage to feasibility and operations in Alaska, Canada, Africa, Australia and Russia. He holds an honours degree in Geology from Western Washington University.

Paul West-Sells (President & COO - WESTERN COPPER AND GOLD)

Dr. West-Sells has 20 years' experience in the mining industry. After obtaining his Ph.D. from the University of British Columbia in Metallurgical Engineering, he worked with BHP, Placer Dome, and Barrick in increasingly senior roles in Research and Development and Project Development. For the past 5 years Dr. West-Sells has worked for Western Copper, holding a number of technical and executive positions. Currently, as the President and COO of Western Copper and Gold, Dr. West-Sells oversees the day to day operations of the company.

Mr. Downs began his career in the mineral exploration industry over 20 years ago with Archer, Cathro & Associates (1981) Limited, a consulting geological engineering firm focused in Yukon. Mr. Downs held a number of positions within Archer, Cathro ranging from prospecting to managing early and advanced stage exploration programs. Mr. Downs transitioned his field experience into marketing and communications for a number of junior resource companies before focusing on business development including financing and property transactions. In 2007, Mr. Downs was appointed CEO of ATAC Resources Ltd. Since that time, ATAC has successfully advanced its project generator model to solely focus on its flagship Rackla Gold Project, which hosts Canada's first Carlin-type gold district.
